Christabel Forbes

A huge thankyou to Christabel who came to school last week to discuss her time at Art college with all our art students and show them her work. Christabel left Wychwood 3 years ago after doing Art, History of Art, French and Photography at A level. She went on to study a Foundation course and, currently, a Degree in Fine Art at Falmouth. She is now in her final year and set to do very well in the summer. She gave our students a very honest, thought-provoking and inspirational perspective on being an art student and her talk has been much discussed since. It was good to hear her thoughts on day-to-day life at college as well as her adventures doing community based work and a six month exchange in Poland.
We all hope to see her again very soon and wish her luck for her assessments in the summer !

It was no surprise to any of us that Ruby achieved A* in her Photography GCSE. She worked very hard throughout the two years of the course and her success was greatly deserved. Miss Jones, Mrs Bridgman and Mr Pennington would like to congratulate all last years Art, Textiles and Photography students on their excellent results in August. Once again the Art Department have achieved a very high number of A and A* grades at A2/AS/GCSE levels and the Edexcel moderators were very positive about the quality, range and maturity of much of the work. Well done ! All the students who wanted to go to study on Art courses have accepted their places we look forward to hearing of their successes in the future.

We would like to welcome all our new students to the department, it is good to see how quickly you have all settled in and we look forward to seeing lots of fantastic new work in the coming months !

Anna Ashdown Photography GCSE

Here is one of Anna's fantastic still life final pieces, produced in response to the theme of 'Force', for Exam project. Her project was about the force of nature and this image was made by putting food colouring in water and waiting for the colour to pass through to the petals. Excellent !
